A practical note for members who need to discuss the motion fairly, keep Bitcoin in scope, and explain the strongest public-interest case while keeping the objections visible.

Start from real failures

Inequality, debanking, bailouts, and eroding purchasing power are real concerns.

Inequality is also a money question

If new money reaches insiders first, then taxation alone may be treating the symptom rather than the source.

Inflation hits workers first

Wage lag and decaying savings are part of the case, rather than a side issue.

Financial censorship is still censorship

If lawful people can be debanked or frozen out, access is still conditional on political approval.

Bailouts and war belong in scope

If money can be printed to rescue banks or finance conflict, the monetary layer is already political.

The climate case is conditional

Talking points

Keep these short. Aim for accuracy and grounded language.

What to say

  • Start from the failures people already recognise: inequality, exclusion, bailouts, and war-financing incentives.
  • Bitcoin matters if the money and settlement layer is part of the problem alongside policy on top.

What to avoid

  • “Bitcoin fixes everything.”
  • “Any blockchain is the same as Bitcoin.” [R2]
  • “Because the state fails here, the state fails everywhere.”
  • “The energy criticism is fake.”
  • “Trustless” without naming which gatekeeper or power is being reduced. [R8]

Questions to ask before you support anything

A Green-friendly case should be able to answer these plainly.

Policy tests

  • What Bitcoin property are we discussing? [R1]
  • Is the topic really P2P, trustless, AI, or grid balancing? [R3]
  • Are we staying in Bitcoin-specific territory, rather than generic blockchain claims? [R3]
  • What concrete public benefit does the motion point to? [R3]
  • Who is accountable if the policy or system fails? [R3]

Helpful framing

  • "Bitcoin only" is clearer than "blockchain" as a catch-all. [R2]
  • "P2P" and "trustless" are useful technical categories when used precisely. [R1]
  • "AI/LLMs" and "grid balancing" help connect decentralisation to real infrastructure debates. [R3]
  • "Pilot, measure, publish, then decide" is still a defensible Green stance. [R3]

Grid balancing and Bitcoin energy use

This is where the strongest energy criticism and the strongest flexible-load argument meet.

What demand response means

  • It shifts electricity use to times when power is more plentiful. [R12]
  • It can also reduce load when the grid is under stress. [R12]
  • It matters most when a grid has surplus generation or fast changes in supply. [R12]

Where Bitcoin fits

  • Bitcoin mining is an electricity demand within an energy system. [R13]
  • It can sometimes operate as a flexible load. [R13]
  • That helps only under specific grid conditions, and emissions concerns still need separate testing. [R3][R12][R13]

Common objections and short answers

Keep the replies short and fair. The strongest criticism should stay visible inside the answer and receive a direct reply.

Speculation concern

It can be. That is why the strongest version of this case avoids price talk and starts with access, censorship, inflation, bailouts, and monetary rules. See the talking points. [R3]

Energy objection

The energy use is real. The fair question is whether the load is flexible enough, whether methane or curtailment claims are real, and whether the comparison against incumbent systems is honest. Send people to the energy page rather than leaving it abstract. [R12][R13]

Why reform may miss the root cause

Because this argument says the failures are partly upstream in the money and settlement layer. If that is true, reform on top may leave the root cause untouched. See the core themes section.

Consumer protection boundary

Before you speak

  • Read the motion language once more.
  • Decide which Green Party core value you are leading with.
  • Pick one example and one risk rather than ten.
  • Be ready to say what the motion leaves outside scope.

When the discussion gets messy

  • Return to the policy test and the evidence.
  • Acknowledge the strongest objection first.
  • Avoid treating Bitcoin as a cure for every problem.
  • Keep the tone calm, narrow, and factual.
